I guess I am pretty invested in the current season of American Idol. In the past I have voted, but only during select seasons; and even then only sparingly. However, last night I voted for Phillip Phillips probably close to 100 times. This was most definitely a new record for me and the first time since somewhere around season 4 that I really cared who wins. In the past I have had a pretty good track record predicting the winners but then I stopped watching and lost my touch. This time around I picked out Phillips during the audition phase and as of now he is still going strong.

I never get tired of watching those Dateline NBC shows they constantly run on “ID”. I’ve never been much for scripted television shows (at least the network shows) as I find real life much more interesting. Luckily for me there is an endless supply of crime, history and travel shows that all both entertain and inform. Now, I’m not completely against scripted television shows as there are some that are really well made. I’m a huge fan of the Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, but these are shows that have zero basis in reality. When it comes to CSI or Law and Order none of them are original they are mostly based off of real life cases so I figure why not just watch a show about the actual real life case.

I’m watching “the Voice” and although its cool to pass the time it doesn’t hold a candle to American Idol. I think its more about the judges than it is about the performances. I tend to spend more time waiting for Cee Lo to make me laugh than caring about what the singers are doing on stage. American Idol on the other hand has the opposite effect. I don’t really like the judges to for me its all about the talent on stage. Now the “X-Factor” which is Simon Cowell’s show has a pretty good mesh between charismatic judges and talent but their performances are over produced which tends to turn me off. I guess what I am trying to say is there is no perfect singing reality show on television. If I had to put them in order of quality I would say American Idol is the best, followed pretty closely by X-Factor and the Voice is a really distant third. Really distant.

So, I’m waiting in the car while my girlfriend runs into the pharmacy for some over the counter medication. After about 15 minutes I decide to go into the store to see whats taking so long. I find her standing in front a wall of what must have been 200 options, with a confused look on her face. So, I ask her whats wrong and she tells me she doesn’t know which one she should buy. I ask her why didn’t she ask the pharmacist, who is literally 20 feet away from where she is standing. She tells me that she didn’t know she could.

I wonder how many people have no idea that in addition to doling out prescription meds, the pharmacist exists to give you useful information. I guess with them being on the other side of the counter people don’t think they can be approached. Nothing could be further from the truth, they are there to help. So instead of possibly taking the wrong medication you should tell a trained professional your symptoms so they can help you make the best decision for your health.

Its so hard to get back to work after you are on vacation. After spending a week being waited on hand in foot its pretty hard to get used to cooking dinner for yourself. The last two days I haven’t been able to bring myself to cook an actual meal so I’ve been ordering take-out. Its not something I like to do but, you have to eat. Well, if any good came from this situation its that I found a new place by my house that makes home-style meals to go. So you go there to order family sized meals to bring home, heat up and eat. I like the concept and think I will probably be using them in the future on days when I work late or am just feeling lazy.
